- Resum
- This article is the introduction to the special issue, ‘Medieval Histories of Disability and Emotions'. It examines the intersection of history of emotions and history of disability studies within medieval history, two fields that share a socio-constructivist approach to bodily experiences but have rarely been studied in direct relation to one another. It traces the evolution of both fields, highlighting key theoretical frameworks such as Barbara Rosenwein's ‘emotional communities' and the social and cultural models of disability. The introduction also provides an overview of the five articles in this issue and identifies major historiographical gaps, particularly the Eurocentric bias that has shaped both disciplines. Finally, it suggests new directions for research, advocating for more intersectional and globally inclusive approaches to the study of disability and emotions in medieval contexts.
