- Resum
- In his Entstehung und Ausbreitung der coppernicanischen Lehre (Erlangen, 1943) the historian of astronomy, Ernst Zinner, for the first time tried to reconstruct the library of the Altdorf professors of mathematics Johannes Praetorius (1537-1616) and Petrus Saxonius (1591-1625). This singular collection of mathematical and astronomical codices and prints of the 16th century is today mainly distributed among the public library of Schweinfurt, the university library of Erlangen and the national library of Munich. For a long time the collection remained largely unnoticed by researchers (compare Zofia Wardeska in Sudhoffs Archiv 61, 1977). The now renewed attempt to reconstruct the library revealed a series of additional prints and codices and led to latest findings in the history of the Praetorius-Saxonius library.
