- Resum
- Monographic study of Ms. Ott. Lat 3058 in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana: Usatges i Constitucions de Catalunya. A hand-written, illuminated codex from Barcelona, containing texts whose dates range widely throughout the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The codex is a miscellaneous compendium of ecclesiastical texts and works on the subject of medieval Catalan law. This study analyzes the whole work, examining the codicological aspects of its literary, historical and artistic content. We draw three basic conclusions: 1. Most of the book comprises the compendium of Usages and Constitutions of Catalonia, preceded by an ecclesiatical calendar showing local feast days in Barcelona. This part and its illustrations can be dated to the first third of the fourteenth century. 2. The work is clearly from Barcelona. There are many details that link it to circles of the Cathedral hierarchy. 3. The illumination of the manuscript shows a primitive italianism of linear character, very similar to that found in contemporary codex from Lerida (first illuminated master) known as the Usatges de la Paeria.
