- The document revisited here,discovered a few years ago, is not unpublished any more; but it is far from having delivered all its substance. It is about an anonymous narrative covering the last six folios (170v-173v) of the ms. N 9 of the Library of St.-Pieters-en-Paulusabdij in Dendermonde (Belgium). This manuscript contains, in the order, the Liber vite meritorum of Hildegard of Bingen (†1179), the Liber viarum Dei of the Cistercian Elisabeth de Schönau (†1164) and the Symphonia S. Hildegardis, namely the lyric compositions of Hildegard, of which it is the oldest manuscript. Copied of alive of the nun in the scriptorium of Rupertsberg, this manuscript was then offered to the Cistercian monastery of Villers-en-Brabant, which Hildegard had contacted by the intervention of her last secretary, Guibert de Gembloux (1213). The text appears as an account of a session of exorcism - although the word is not pronounced-, during which an evil spirit was questioned for a long time by a priest, in particular on the so called Cathars which raged then in the region of Mainz. Having given a summary of the text and having evoked the context in which it was composed, this paper tries to bring to light its wealth for the question of sources : this text contains indeed various informations which deserve that we look for their origin and their nature ; some of them can be tracked after the 12th century, and it pushes us also to examine the question of the influence of this text, i.e. its own status of source. An appendix gives the most significative excepts of the text on the heretical practices of the so-called cathari.
