- Resum
- The documentation of the Glossarium Mediae Latinitatis Cataloniae, consisting of texts written between the ninth and twelfth centuries, gives us the opportunity to conceive the rural or urban land planning. The study of such texts allows us to affirm that one of the factors that determines the organization is just the water and, in particular, the use of springs and natural waterways, the diversion of watercourses and, especially, the exploitation of motive force that water generates. In that sense, the mill is one of the buildings, which, par excellence, reflects all the technical effort that the men of the time were able to develop. The mill as grinding machine, its component parts, the mechanisms by which it works, the house or building that shelters it are mentioned, described or listed in the glossary corpus. Also, building licences, discussions about its operation or benefit agreements that carry its exploitation can be read in the documentation. And all of that without forgetting that the vocabulary related to the mill, just like its own movement, always revolves around water. Keywords : Vocabulary, notarial deeds, Medieval Latin, water, mills, hydraulic technology.
