- Resum
- This article proposes a partial revision of the corpus of writings commonly attributed to John of St Amand. More specifically, it attempts to 1) eliminate from the corpus some texts, such as the commentaries apparently devoted to Ibn Butlan's Tacuinum sanitatis and on Ibn Jazla's Tacuinus morborum, or to the Practica sive Grabadin attributed to Johannes Mesue; 2) describe the nature and the contents of writings such as the commentary on the fourth book of Avicenna's Liber canonis; 3) distinguish the versions of one of the most famous works written by John, the Expositio super Antidotarium Nicolai, attested by medieval manuscripts. More specifically, this study connects the production of those versions with the development of a theoretical debate on the principles of pharmacology and the modus operandi of simple remedies derived from natural objects during the Late Middle Ages.
