Bos, Gerrit, "Maimonides on medicinal measures and weights, from his Galenic epitomes", Aleph: Historical Studies in Science and Judaism, 9/2 (2009), 255-276.
ResumThe article consists of an edition and translation of a lengthy and detailed discussion by Maimonides in his Epitome of Galen's Katagenes of some medical measures and weights as they feature in Galen and subsequent medical literature. Maimonides' discussion of some of these measures and weights seems to be particularly interesting as it is based on ancient prominent sources, above all Yuhanna Ibn Sarabiyun (9th century), which go back to a period of time when the so-called "canonical" units were established.
