- Resum
- A study of a large sales network developed by Vittorio Algarotti (1553-1604), a physician from Verona who commercialized a panacea called Potable Gold Quintessence or Powder of Algaroth. He established his headquarter in Venice and he had extended his channels of sales all around Europe from 1590 to 1604. He had general representatives supported by particular agents, each of whom were specialized in the preparation of chymical medicines: Gérard Vaguet in Seville, Francis Anthony in London, Andrea Bastellis in Naples, Joao de Castelo Branco in Lisbon, Fructuoso Lourenço de Basto in Porto, Jan Vander Broecker in Anvers, Alessandro Quintilio in Madrid, etc. Many of these men had obtained business licences by the medical authorities in different european places. Algarotti became a very rich man but he was murdered. This paper includes an introductory analysis and transcriptions of original documents (manuscripts, old booklets, promotional placards, etc.).
