- MS London, British Library Or. 10289 [=Gaster 19, IMHM F 7651] is an important alchemical codex copied in 1690. The former owner of the manuscript, Moses Gaster, devoted a considerable portion of the entry Alchemy that he wrote for the Jewish Encyclopedia to a description of its contents. Raphael Patai allocated an entire chapter of his book to the same codex. Nevertheless, this manuscript remains essentially unstudied; little is known of its contents, not to mention the contexts of their transmission and study, other than the names of some of the principal authors to whom the writings are attributed. Both Gaster and Patai observed that the codex contains a tract attributed to Albertus Magnus, but provided no information beyond this, not even the name of the tract, though it is clearly displayed on f. 45b: Derekh yashar, which clearly conveys the Latin Semita recta, an alchemical text very widely diffused in different versions.
