- Resum
- The Pantegni is a medical textbook translated by Constantine the African from Arabic into Latin in the eleventh century at the monastery of Monte Cassino. This paper identifies different textual branches of the Pantegni, Theorica, the first half of the work. At the centre of the discussion is ms. Helsinki, National Library of Finland, Eö.II.14 (s. XII3/4), the marginalia in which have been collated with several other Pantegni manuscripts for this study. These and further collations with Stephen of Antioch's Regalis dispositio, a second Latin translation of the original Arabic work, provide evidence for different redactions that adapt the original Arabic to varying degrees. This paper demonstrates that ms. Eö.II.14 amalgamates two or more versions of the Pantegni, Theorica.
