Resum

Violas's political prognostication for 1355 and his residence in southern France indicate that he made it for a lord in that region. This paper argues that Violas probably intended to reevaluate the earlier prognostications made in Avignon for the year 1345 and the following decade, and the apocalyptic millenarian prophesies for 1345–1355 that followed these prognostications. Because Violas's language and practice associate him with Gersonides, it is suspected that he was one of a small circle of Jewish astronomers-astrologers in Provence who wrote prognostications on demand for Christian lords.
