- Resum
- From the vantage point of the present, we contemplate the realities of girl snd boys in the past who where left helpless. The question of adoption today tends to focus more on the men and women who want to become parents than on the human and social drama of parentless children. Nonetheless, there are public and private institutions whose initiatives priorities the physical and emotional growth of children and believe that integration into families is the best way to encourage this growth. With this in mind, we explore the possibilities offered by archives in medieval Catalonia regarding adoption. More concretely, we hope to deepen out understanding of adoption through the volumes of documents held by the Santa Creu Hospital in Barcelona in order to study and define the ways in which foundlings were received, and to analyze the particular stories that emerge from these realities.
