- In this paper we intend to study the municipal expenditure on food,
using the income and expenses book of the Montemor-o-Novo municipality, sometimes compared with the book of another municipality. Two income and expenses books of this municipality have been published - and we don't know of any others in medieval times – for the years of 1422 anda 1499, which will be the subject of our detailed study. We systematize these food expenditures into two groups - one for payment of men and women who traveled to the service of the municipality for multiple purposes or worked in it; another related to expenditure on foodstuffs in festive moments and with the gifts given to some visitors or guests. The work is appended by a table of food prices that we find in the sources consulted.
