- José María Millás Vallicrosa's 1943 article on the contributions to astronomy of Pedro Alfonso (Moshe ha-Sefaradi before he converted in 1106) remains the only treatment of its subject, and is translated here into English. The article discusses Alfonso's biography, his classification of the sciences (in his Disiciplina clericalis), his collaboration with his student Walcher of Malvern, his Epistola, his stance on astrology, his astronomical tables and their relationship to al-Khwārizmī's, his possible collaboration with Adelard of Bath, and astronomical data appearing in his polemical work Dialogus Petri et Moysei iudei. A “Postscript” by Prof. Charles Burnett offers updated information about recent research concerning Alfonso.
