- The Unknown Galen: Galen beyond Kuhn was the theme of the joint symposium held in 1999 by the Institute of Classical Studies and the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine. The aim of the conference was to bring to wider scholarly attention some of the treatises that were not included in the twenty volumes of Kuhn's 1821-1833 standard edition. The Corpus Galenicum is still growing. Since 1945 a new fragment of Galen, and often a whole work, has been announced or published on average every two years. It represents the largest accession of writings to any classical author since the Renaissance. A brief bibliography, listing these unfamiliar works, is given as an appendix to this volume.
