- Resum
- In Arabic medicine, diet is considered a key medical application which aims to maintain and rejuvenate the health of an individual; food and drink are therefore essential elements in the control of well-being. In the Arab-Muslim world, hospitals were also one of medicine's most impressive achievements. Close links developed between medical practitioners and hospitals since they were recognized as the ideal place to teach both theoretical and practical medical knowledge. Established through personal charity, hospitals were obligated to receive both patients and the poor, and the system of care offered involved the provision of good quality food, often in large quantities.
