Hunt, Tony, "The Novele cirurgerie in MS London, British Library, Harley 2558", Zeitschrift für Romanische Philologie, 103 (1987), 271-299.
- Resum
- La Novele cirurgerie is a medical recipe book for curing ailments. The book is written in Anglo-Norman verse couplets and contains herbal remedies as well as charms. Each recipe or charm begins with a head phrase naming the complaint. Three complete versions of La Novele cirurgerie are known, but the text printed here is of a previously unedited fragment made up of 365 lines. The Harley fragment is most like the complete text found in Oxford Bodleian Library MS Auct. F.5.31 (see OMSB entry for the edition by Hieatt and Jones). Hunt's introduction (8 pages) describes all known manuscript versions of the Novele cirurgerie text, giving publication information where available. Hunt also lists the entire contents of the Harley manuscript. A glossary (4 pages) follows the edition.
