- Resum
- The earliest known works of Arab medicine produced in al- Andalus are only from the Xth century. Since there was always sick people and had to be doctors to treat them. What happened in the meantime? Between the VIIIth and the Xth centuries the medical knowledge in the Iberian Peninsula was what remained from the Greek and Roman medicine. No much medical treaties in the libraries and a short knowledge about plants and other substances. Christian doctors made a kind of bridge from the roman-gothic past to new times, and during the VIIIth century and the first half of IXth century, some Latin medical texts were translated to Arabic. All changed in the beginning of the Umayyad Caliphate in al-Andalus and with the translation of Dioscorides Book from the Greek to Arabic, and real start point of the Andalusian medicine.
